Yes, the attack occurred during President Obama's watch, so he's responsible. An article in the New York Times today indicates that the Obama administration had a false sense of security. Whether the administration attempted to cover up the nature of the attack remains to be determined. Whether al-Qaeda remains in retreat or is resurgent also remains to be determined.

A very interesting read, Mr Uhler. I'm curious about your opinion regarding the recent issue in Lybia: It has come to light that we were warned 3 days in advance. Regardless of a possible cover-up, do you feel that THIS administration let us down and could have been better prepared for the events on 9/11/12?

MartianDude: I agree. The counteroffensive by Spanier and his lawyers won't penetrate into the minds of people who have already decided this issue -- based upon the Grand Jury Report, the Sandusky trial and the Freeh Report -- and moved on to other things. However, a "not guilty" verdict in the trial of Curley and Schultz could (should!!!) be a game changer.

Best,
Walt

Spanier's recent media appearance is a start. Not surprisingly, the news headlines are generally of the "Bullshit! You're just covering your ass" variety. The ousted PSU president and lawyers probably never believed they were going to make a meaningful dent in public opinion, but their exposure was most likely meant to bring something substantive out there. It remains to be seen if step 2 and beyond will pierce the skepticism of the media.

I can see how the media and popular opinion would be skeptical. Personally, Graham's story sounds like the sort of story of a lot of people who were absolutely stunned to have a pedophile right under their nose. I just don't share the same perception prism as most people. Their prism probably won't change until the public at large and media are not getting the court victories they expect. At this point, they'll start scratching their heads and go "okay. What are we missing?" This would definitely happen after people read the "Freeh Guilty" headlines. For the time being, we would be way ahead of ourselves.

Ray:

This is an idea I had not considered. But Spanier says, in his written repsonse to the Freeh investigators, that "My use of the word "humane" refers specifically and only to my thought that it was humane of Tim to wish to inform Sandusky first and to allow him to accompany Tim to the meeting with the president of the Second Mile."

Best,
Walt

Walter,
Sandusky admitted to being concerned about his mental health in his retirement letter (Exhibit 3E of the Freeh Report). I believe this was why Spanier, et al, deemed Curley's actions to be a more "humane" approach.

Regards,
Ray

Dear Sir:
I am Nubian True Hebrew, no need for any apology. There is more than one way to lynch a man, one physical torture and murder, the other, the murder of a man's reputation, character assassination. All reasonable minds know the difference. I, myself, have written a book: "The Lynching of A Saint," which can be found on Amazon, as an ebook, a 521 page legal analysis of The Penn State Child Abuse Scandal, which completely exonerates Joe Paterno, but The Penn State Board of Trustees were out for blood, and Joe Paterno was the biggest fish in the Commonwealth, so he would become fodder for their agenda. Joe Paterno was one of the finest men, to ever walk the face of the Earth, and a man of impeccable integrity. I live in Alabama, with its legendary football programs, but Coach Joseph Vincent Paterno was the greatest coach ever, and one of the best men ever. When I grow up, I want to be just like "Joe Pa."
